Nor has the Minister statement be taken as truth. Such practice was, and is common in the Middle eastern countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The cases that has been recorded among Malaysian Malays is considered as a drop in a big ocean. Other races in Malaysia have been every now and then heard of and even recorded occurrence of such case, but very rare. It was part of traditional practice long discarded in the wake of Christianity among the tribes in Sabah and Sarawak. Based on my experience and observations, there is a strong positive co-relation between such practice (statutory rape) and occurrence cultures whereby women are treated as "unequal" or less equal to men. Maybe that sheds some light of why such cases are prevalent in Middle Eastern countries and some Asian countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Victims of statutory rape are largely women (girls underage) and very rarely a man (which proves the earlier statement). The more the society accept and treat their women as equal the lesser cases of statutory rape recorded. That is why such cases are rarely heard in countries like the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden. Maybe the minister had failed to see the consequences of his statement. He shouldn't be made to bear the wrath of the people. Regrettably, his response after the statement has never been better to give remedy to the public uproar. It also tells from the perspective of the public, the capability of thinking reasonably and the power to reason effectively. As to me, he has been forgiven, not because of his missteps but because I know the fact much better than him.
